You don't have to live in The Villages to enjoy it. The town squares come alive every night with free live entertainment in the gazebos, typically from 5–9 PM. Featuring everything from tribute bands to big band swing. Grab a bite at one of the many restaurants overlooking the square, then stay for the show.
Nature, Parks & Wildlife
More than just Silver Springs State Park, the area near Southern Oaks RV Resort is a destination for birdwatching and hiking and is beloved by nature enthusiasts. Ocala National Forest with over 600 square miles of forest, spring-fed swimming holes, and hiking trails is a short drive north. Carney Island Recreation & Conservation Area offersalking trails, picnic spots, and lake access for a quieter afternoon outdoors.

The Baker House— Live Florida History
A quick 30 miniute drive from southern Oaks is The Baker House . Built around 1890, the home consists of a two story main house with porches on both floors and a separate two story kitchen house. Much of the main house is still original; it is a beautiful landmark in Sumter County.

Universal Studios Florida
Staying at Southern Oaks puts Universal Studios Orlando within easy reach — about 60–75 minutes away, close enough for a full day of Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, and Universal's newest attractions. Spend the day riding coasters and exploring the parks, then return to a quiet, spacious RV site in Summerfield for the evening. It's the best of both worlds: theme park excitement by day, peaceful Florida living by night.
Discovery Center – Ocala
Grandkids visiting for the week? The Discovery Center in Ocala is a hit, just 20–25 minutes from Southern Oaks. Kids get hands-on with science exhibits, live animals, and rotating displays that change throughout the year — plenty to keep them curious for an hour or two. Afterward, head back to the park for a swim and a relaxed evening together before the next adventure.
Florida Horse Park
Only about 15 minutes from Southern Oaks, the Florida Horse Park is a 500-acre showcase of Ocala's title as the Horse Capital of the World. Watch dressage, rodeos, and equestrian competitions year-round, or simply stroll the grounds and take in the horses. It's an easy, low-cost outing that pairs well with a relaxed afternoon back at the park.
Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing
Bring the whole family to the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing and International Drag Racing Hall of Fame, just 20 minutes from Southern Oaks in south Ocala. Nearly 300 vintage and modern race cars — including Don Garlits' legendary "Swamp Rat" dragsters — make for a fun, hands-on outing that keeps young visitors engaged for hours. Plan on 2–3 hours to see both buildings.
